When I first connected with Anand through a mutual contact who spoke highly of him, I initially assumed he was a budding student or a newcomer in the music world. It wasn't until we had a conversation over the phone that I realised Anand had already made significant strides as a professional musician, with an impressive body of work and live performances to his name.

During our conversation, it became evident that Anand possessed a fierce drive to achieve more and tackle new challenges. As a creative individual with a relentless desire for growth and higher aspirations, he wasn't content with progressing at a conventional rate. He left a strong impression as a focused, determined, and honest individual.

Anand is also a firm believer in motivation and philosophy. On the same phone call, he shared a profound quote with me: "A ship in a harbour is safe, but that is not what ships are built for." This quote truly revealed his personality and outlook beyond music. It encapsulated his determination and aspiration for greater heights. Upon hearing this, I was inspired to write this blog and contribute to his future prospects.

Anand Masrani is an excellent musician. From what I have observed and reviewed of his work, both on his website as well as his published recordings, I can confirm and definitely not deny the absolute stellar quality in his ability to express himself as a musician, both as a performer and as a composer.

His music has been absolutely a joy to experience. For the intent that he has, which is to explore an opportunity to perform music abroad in the UK, I believe he is more than qualified.

Particular notable instances of his work which I deem very representative of his excellence and his natural skill towards being expressive are “Phantom In The Fog”, which is a video and a single recording of his work with one of his bands. His proficiency with technique not only allows him but also inspires him to be a very genuine player and a warm contributor to the groups he plays in and the music he serves.

His bass covers and transcriptions have also been very interesting to observe and listen to, particularly the ones by Jamiroquai, for the song “Whatever It Is I Just Can't Stop”, as well as “Polka Dots and Moonbeams”. Those are both really excellent, in addition to the rest of his catalogue.

I believe that he's more than worthy to be considered for this opportunity. There's just a certain quality to which he plays that I sense genuine emotion and energy, and at the same time, also electricity. That is a key thing that we often disregard as performers, is can someone really play with electricity? Can you capture someone else's ear and invite them in to tell them a story or take them to a place away from their current environment? And that is something that we as musicians, performers, artists, are always aspiring to do. We're searching for that sort of truth. We're searching for some ideas and meanings, deeper meanings, and sharing them with other people that words and imagery alone cannot express. And I feel that with Anand Masrani's work.
